Challenge yourself for Air Ambulance!

Wiltshire Air Ambulance has put the call out to fill their third trek to Trek to Morocco.

The Trek to climb the highest Atlas Mountain in Morocco has been so successful that the charity has decided to run it again to raise much needed funds for Wiltshire’s dedicated Air Ambulance.

Caroline Corrigan, head of fundraising at the charity said ‘over the past two years this trek has raised in excess of £60,000. This incredible amount is greatly needed to ensure we are able to continue to cover the running costs of the helicopter.

By the end of 2014 our running costs will be 2.5million per year which works out at £6,850 per day. Over the past two years we’ve been working hard to ensure we are able to meet this rise in income and our treks and challenges really do ring a bell with supports who sign up.

The Highest Atlas Mountain is called Toubkal. We have 10 people signed up and we’re looking for another 10 to join them.

The trek leaves on September 23rd – 27th September 2013. We ask each trekker to raise £1,500 through sponsorship. This covers flights, food, water and we always bring a doctor on the trek to look after the team. It also includes a £985 donation to come’s the charity.

Last year’ trek team enjoyed sleeping out under the stars on the mountain and showering under waterfalls. For more information visit www.wiltshireairambulance.co.uk and click on events. To sign up email caroline@wiltshireairambulance.co.uk and secure your place.’

The charity receives no Government funding but rely totally on the support of the public and business support. Over the last 18months the helicopter and crew have flown to over 1400 different incidences across the county and neighbouring counties.

Highlights? Too many to list, but here are just a couple of snippets to get your juices flowing!

Electric Swing Circus – what can we say? Fronted by the sassy Sisters of Swing with the addition of live drums, fretless bass, gypsy jazz guitar, keys synths and swinging samples. The Electric Swing Circus hotfoots it through their own unique blend of Electro Swing, fused with everything from Breakbeat, house, Drum and Bass, Dubstep and more. If you missed them at WOMAD and Fieldview last year then now is your chance to swing your pants electro stylee (Saturday night)

Lazy Habits – Didn’t make the Hackney based crew’s recent gig @ Colston Halls…? well shame on you! But fear not SFHQ was there and were just blown away by their unique sound (influenced by New Orleans jazz, soul and the Big Bands of the 50’s but blasted into the 21st Century with hard hitting beats and slick lyrics)  – so they will coming to a field near you on Friday 14th June!

The Ten Pound Suit Band – Ah “The Suits”, if you were at the Sherston Fire and Ice Ball you probably already get it. If you weren’t then think of The Rinky Dinks but replace the ukuleles with a mad man on banjo and wild woman trumpet, then and replace skiffle with bluegrass/swingabilly and you get the idea….  The ultimate party band, no one gets out without dancing!!

Sam Green and the Midnight Heist  – the best lap slide guitar you have ever heard, add in a band with more energy than Hinckley Point (feat. local boy James Cameron  of  Fieldview/Old School Tie fame) and some real foot stompin’ tunes and there is a guaranteed ho-down going on!

And there’s so much more !!!!  Future Dub Orchestra, Mammoth Sound, Show It Off, Troy Ellis (son of rocksteady legend Alton) and the Hail Jamaica Reggae Band, smooth operators The Atelier, insanely cool jazz rock from Kenworthy, local girl Sophie Stead –  want more ? What about the haunting sound of Old Colours and add in local fav’s The Soul Destroyers, Henry Green, Miss Da Funk   – even the now legendary “wake and shake” set from The Sherston Village People and I am just getting too exited!

That’ll do for starters?  I think I have to go an lie down now…. as ever lots more info on the web site and more to follow – so stay tuned listeners!!

And remember IT WILL BE SOLD OUT so get your tickets now before it’s too late!!

Set in the heart of one of the south Cotswolds most beautiful villages the festival is on 14th and 15th of June this year and tickets are on sale via the festival web site.

Malmesbury Abbey Music Society (MAMS) is proud to announce its very exciting 2013 season …

First off on 16th March, MAMS are delighted to welcome back the Malmesbury Singers conducted by Iain Duffin together with the Bristol Ensemble lead by Roger Huckle.  This lively and popular collection of musicians will entertain us with an Evening of Mozart … Mozart’s Requiem, Ave Verum and Mozart’s Violin Concerton No. 3 in G with Roger Huckle as soloist.  The solo voices will be young, talented singers from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

On 11th May we are thrilled to welcome Julian Lloyd Webber to the Abbey for the first time.  Julian will be accompanied by Rebeca Ormodia and will give a wonderfully varied cello recital with music from Bach, Bridge, Ireland, Britten, Faure, Saint-Saens, Delius, William Lloyd Webber and Rachmaninov.

Next on 29th June, Red Priest, a most extraordinary baroque quartet, will give us an evening to remember with The Carnival of the Seasons – Vivaldi with a Difference. Piers Adams, world renowned leader of the ensemble, is offering a one hour recorder workshop on the afternoon of this concert for recorder players grade 1 and above.

On 21st September we are lucky enough to have Peter King, the Director of Music at Bath Abbey, returning to play the Abbey’s famous Johnson organ and on 19th October, the Coull Quartet (Quartet in Residence at the University of Warwick since 1977) will give us an exciting programme of Haydn, Shostakovich and Tchaikovsky.

To round off the season in style, we welcome the London Brass Symposium on 16th November.  Their splendid brass sounds – Music Leading us to Advent – will surely get us into the mood for Christmas!

All concerts take place in the Abbey, and tickets priced at £12 ( £20 for Julian Lloyd Webber)/ £5 for students, can be obtained from the Abbey Bookshop, or the MAMS Ticket Secretary, David Barton, on 01666 824924, email d.barton763@btinternet.com.  Alternatively, they can be bought online through the Malmesbury website www.malmesbury.com/mams.

However it is not too late to become a member.  For £55 you get a season ticket that covers all the season’s concerts, while £10 membership gets you discounted tickets.  The society also organises trips to musical events, the annual highlight being our trip to the BBC Proms at the Albert Hall.  Contact David Barton for further details.
